Employee Relations Officer

Port Shepstone – KwaZulu Natal – South Africa

We are seeking a highly competent and detail-orientated Employee Relations Officer to join our HR team within a dynamic hospitality environment. This role is critical in supporting operational management with effective employee relations practices, ensuring legal compliance, and mitigating organisational risk.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide end-to-end support on employee relations matters, including misconduct, incapacity, grievances, and conflict resolution
  • Manage and represent the organisation in external dispute resolution processes, including CCMA proceedings 
  • Engage with trade unions on a regular basis, including participation in wage negotiations, consultations, and dispute management
  • Draft and review disciplinary documentation, policies, and outcome reports with a high level of accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with applicable labour legislation, internal policies, and collective agreements
  • Facilitate disciplinary hearings and investigations, ensuring procedural and substantive fairness
  • Support line management with guidance on employee relations best practices and risk mitigation
  • Monitor and respond to compliance-related matters, including compliance orders and labour inspections
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting on all employee relations matters
 
Key Competencies & Personal Attributes
  • Relevant qualification in Human Resources, Labour Relations, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an Employee Relations role
  • Proven experience dealing with trade unions, including wage negotiations and dispute resolution
  • Demonstrated experience handling CCMA cases from Conciliation through to arbitration
  • Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, EEA)
  • High level of attention to detail and strong administrative capability
  • Ability to manage multiple matters concurrently with sound judgement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Professional, objective, and confidential with sensitive matters
  • High level of integrity and accountability
 
Additional Requirements
  • Must be willing to travel to various operational sites as required
